SYNOPSIS: A minimally invasive device for long bone fractures. The surgeon creates a surgical field including the channel wall of the bone marrow canal. Interlocking male and female implants have expandable balloons for contacting the channel wall of the bone marrow canal. Fluid is used to expand the balloons to securely grip the bone marrow canal. After the balloons grip the opposite fractures, the surgeon can align and pull the fractures toward each other until an alignment of the broken bone occurs. Sensors are a functional component of the Fracture Reduction Device and can measure such parameters as the forces applied to the opposite fractures.
