Frequently Asked Questions

1What is a medical patent?

A medical patent is a legal asset granted by a specialized federal authority—such as the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)—that discloses a novel invention. Because of its medical nature, the underlying invention typically requires subsequent governmental clearance or regulatory approval before it can be legally sold or used in commerce. Examples of these downstream regulatory and market approval agencies include the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

2What is Medical Patents Broker Inc. Marketplace?

The Medical Patents Broker Inc. ("MPB") marketplace is a specialized platform where companies, corporations, hospitals, individuals, non-profit organizations, universities, and venture capitalists can commence, negotiate, and facilitate a “meeting of the minds” for buying, selling, or licensing medical patents. MPB’s marketplace also hosts the Directory of Experts and the NEED Expert ASAP Dispatch Alert feed, where industry professionals can advertise services or respond to urgent requests.

3Why should my company or organization utilize Medical Patents Broker Inc.?

“If they don't know about it, they won't buy it!” this quote is attributed to Philip Kotler (Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University).

Medical Patents Broker Inc. provides a marketplace for the medical inventions described in medical patents.

4What is the cost of listing a medical patent with Medical Patents Broker Inc.?

There is no charge to list a medical patent.

5What are the Commission Rates?

When MPB facilitates an initial offer from a buyer/licensee to a seller/licensor, the transactional commission rates payable solely by the seller/licensor are structured as follows:

  • 12% for a Straight Sale (Full Assignment).
  • 18% for a Hybrid Transaction (Part Sale, Part License).
  • 24% for a Straight License (Ownership Retained).
  • Add 3% to each of the above for a private listing Patent Maestro® Vault.

6How does the Directory of Experts work?

The Directory is a public advertising venue viewable by all users of MPB’s marketplace. Listings are strictly limited to individuals and entities with verified expertise in moving medical inventions and their foundational patents through regulatory channels (such as the FDA, CMS, CDC, and USPTO) as well as entities (escrow, financial, insurance, legal, quality management, healthcare economics, technical document support, investment networks) that support those moving the invention to the market and the patient. Annual advertising subscription fees range from $330.00 to $4,500.00 depending on placement tier.

7How does the Need Expert ASAP Dispatch work?

When a party moving a medical invention through regulatory channels encounters an unprecedented, time-critical problem, they can utilize the Dispatch system to source immediate help. For a flat $330.00 fee, MPB will publicly broadcast the urgent ASAP Dispatch Alert across its digital ecosystem for at least twenty-one (21) days.

8Will Medical Patents Broker Inc. make an exception for my listing or offer?

No. To preserve platform integrity and legal compliance, all marketplace activities (including buyer/licensee offers, seller/licensor listings, Directory applications, and ASAP Dispatches) must be initiated through the standardized pathways identified on MPB’s Home Page. Whether an individual or an international, no exceptions will be granted.

9Does Medical Patents Broker Inc. publicly post commercial details of a finished medical patent transaction?

No. Cash values or receivables remain confidential.

1Does any medical patent qualify to be listed on the marketplace?

2Does Medical Patents Broker Inc. actually limit its marketplace to medical patents?
